A 7-year-old Wilmette boy has been cast in the big-budget Hollywood movie that begins filming on the North Shore next month.

Griffin Kane, 7, will appear in the upcoming action-thriller movie “Contagion” as Clark, the son of Gwyneth Paltrow’s character and step-son of Matt Damon’s character.

The film is about a deadly disease outbreak, and features a host of A-list movie stars, such as Damon, Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Laurence Fishburne. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh, who won a 2001 Academy Award for Best Director for the film “Traffic.”

Kane was cast this summer, before the permits were filed to film at three locations in Wilmette.

“It is a small role, but a huge opportunity for a 7-year-old … to be directed by Steven Soderbergh and have scenes with both Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow,” said Kane’s mother, Kelly Keenan, in an e-mail.

Producers have identified three Wilmette locations to shoot – Central School, 910 Central Ave.; a home in the 600 block of Greenleaf Avenue; and the Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Ave.

“We were excited to find out (through your reporting) that there will be some scenes filmed in Wilmette,” Keenan wrote.

She said Kane has modeled since he was 6-months-old, but this will be his film debut.

The studio contract prohibits Kane from being interviewed before filming, said one of the film’s publicists.
