The Adventures of Chris Fable: Solomon Ray.

When wandering around the pound shops I can sometimes find obscure boy films. This one is called 'The Adventures of Chris Fable' and stars Solomon Ray who looks as though he's about 15. Chris is a runaway child thief living in a junkyard in some future world. He sets off to find his father and the film deals with the weird characters and fighting robots he meets on the way. It had obviously been made on a shoestring budget and some of the special affects are pretty poor. It also holds a religious message when Chris has to find 'the right path in life' which spoils the plot somewhat. The film is not listed on BA and neither is Solomon Ray. Anyone know of this boy film cheapy?

I started to watch this movie a few months ago, I couldn't get interested in it for some reason, I guess I've seen too many films of this type of storeline. Smiley

Here's the IMDb link ... low-budget films often have more than one name

What surprises me is looking at the IMDB character listing and seeing the listing for the character Chris is third to the last. I assume whoever entered the data did the usual and put all of the adults ahead of the child actors. It doesn't bode well that a reviewer said their 4 year old could do a better movie.

Be that as it may that a 4 year old could do better, it is still interesting to find obscure boy films like this one. In the credits a few offbeat churches are thanked, churches that probably preach fire and damnation and hang homos. I notice that the executive producer is called Brian Ray so I must assume Solomon is his son and probably the reason he got the part. However, Solomon acts his part well and at least you aren't bashed over the head too much with the religious message.

Boymoviebuff: You can't start to watch a boy film and then stop for reasons of lack of interest. It is your duty as a BA member to watch ALL boy films to the VERY end. Wink

No, the list is simply alphabetical...

This film was actually pretty good!

Stars fourteen-year-old Solomon Ray as 'Chris'.  Solomon Ray was absolutely great!  This is his first film role.  He has a wonderful habit of blinking his eyes as he is delivering his lines.  Worth watching the film just to see his performance!    Cheesy

The story was a little odd, but still interesting.  Even though the film is ultra-low budget, it's impressive what they did with it.  Only thing I didn't like about the film is the VO and lack of camera stabilization for some scenes.

Cheesy

I got the impression that it was film with handheld Camcorder, a high quality one, but none the less a handheld! The stablizers on those were not so good, especially if there was a lot of movement!

The chase scene at the very beginning (and subsequent chase scenes) were filmed hand-held on purpose as stated by the director in the commentary.

This is just my opinion: There are only two acceptable reasons to shoot hand-held and jerky: to simulate an earthquake or an explosion.  And we're talking scenes that are only seconds long.  All other hand-held jerky photography in my opinion detracts from a film.
