The Prince and the Pauper: Philip Sarson.

I can hardly believe that this BBC production of Mark Twain's classic has failed to make the BA listings. Starring Philip Sarson playing both Edward VI and Tom Canty this was a fairly lavish production broadcast in 1996. Sarson gave a very credible performance considering this was a six part, half hour series which must have been quite a task for him. Max Johnson played Humphrey, the whipping boy. Oddly the DVD comes from Holland and the cover illustrates only Lady Jane Grey and the Duke of Somerset - no Philip Sarson! In fact Sarson is not even listed among the boy actors on BA. I hope a member will be able to provide some pics of this relatively unknown and, up till now, forgotten boy actor.

Yes, 'nerodiaman', I have the DVD of the Timmins twins version too. I also have the DVD of the 1937 film with the American Billy and Bobby Mauch twins which had Errol Flynn playing Miles Hendon. However, the Philip Sarson TV film has so far been completely omitted from BA. Well really! Wink

A great story that's been told a number of times, in a few different ways! Smiley

Thanks for the pics, 'Boymoviebuff', and especially the one of Sarson. I see you have included a pic of Charlie Rowe which I have just realised is your huge, massive avatar. I only guessed it was Charlie from the moles on his chin! This pic looks as though he's dressed like Tom Canty though I know of no version of the P&P that he's been in. In fact, I shall have to send in another tut-tut post about Charlie Rowe's appearance in 'Neverland' being omitted as well. This was a Sky TV production with Charlie as Peter Pan and several other boy actors notably James Ainsworth playing 'Tootles'.

Smiley I saw the other day the version of 1937 with Billy and Bobby MAUCH and I liked this movie. My movie rating is 7/10.
