We seem to have a hole in the database so I shall attempt to fill it  Cool

I'd never heard of (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) or (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) until I happened across it in the newly added movies at movie4k.to (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links). Luke isn't in the database, but a movie search here does give 2 of his co-stars.

A summary from Roger Ebert's (may he RIP) review, who gave it 4 stars: The story involves a young boy in a New Mexico town at the end of World War II. With his brothers off to war, his parents invite an elderly relative named Ultima to come and live with them. She possesses magical powers — black powers, say some, who call her a witch. The old woman takes young Antonio under her care. At a time when the traditional culture of New Mexico is under siege from the modern, and young men transformed by war were returning home with strange ideas in their heads, Ultima hopes Antonio can learn his people's way of living and carry it forward into his life.

This was a really good movie. Antonio's grandma is a "curandera", or medicine woman, and she teaches her grandson the ways of plants and nature. Antonio struggles to understand religion and why bad people are allowed to walk around unpunished while bad things happen to the good people. Young Luke Ganalon does a terrific job as a boy trying to make sense of his world.

I love giving other people something to do  Grin

Apparently the movie is based on a book by Rudolfo Anaya, so now I'm going to try and find that as I need something good to read  Cool

If you follow my link to movie4k to watch the movie, the Bitshare host worked great for me, but your mileage may vary, as always. And another great movie just added to my list  Wink

Nope, I didn't, since that thread doesn't come up in a forum search for "Bless Me, Ultima" or "Luke Ganalon", and neither is mentioned in the topic. I do search forums before making a new thread, like a good boy  Grin I think that thread doesn't show in a search because the "Bless Me, Ultima" text is in bold, and your search engine doesn't seem to like things in bold or italics  Huh

Also, I haven't had time to go through all 6100+ Topics yet  Grin

I was able to get a search for "Bless Me, Ultima" to produce that older thread (as I'm sure Hosenhaus was), but there are (always) several things I have to do first before getting results:

1) I have to use the advanced "search" (not the default search box); it's just called "Search" and it's found on the row of button-menus under the forum's date/time and the "We've upgraded to YABB 2.5 AE" bit.

2) using the advanced search, I scroll down and change the working timeframe to search for to "all" results, rather than just the default "week."

****

That being said, and to be honest, I don't think that the other thread would have been the best place for your comments which you've put here - I think it was absolutely appropriate to make a new thread (this one), since here we can talk about this movie and its child-actor, and not about Christian Traeumer or his movie "Das Kind."  Just my own two-cents.

Ah! Thanks for the tip  Smiley

Actually, I think hosenhaus was just pointing out that the movie had been mentioned once before, and that I hadn't noticed it yet, not that I had made a thread about it  Smiley He gets points for being the first to mention it, but we must take away points for not following up on it  Wink Grin Wink

I'm beginning to realize that it's quite hard to come across a movie that isn't here somewhere  Cool

more from Bless Me, Ultima

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) Diego Miró

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) Juan Martinez

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) Kevin Ruiz

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) Julian Ortega

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) Christian Traeumer

I think the adaptation of the movie from the book is rather inferior.

Good caps  Smiley For those interested in the ebook, you can "borrow" or buy a copy (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links). I just got it but haven't read it yet.

One of my favorite lines in the movie:
Antonio, after taking his first communion: Do you feel anything?
Friend: I feel hungry.

Anyone know where to get this on Blu-Ray? I am reliably informed such a thing exists, and I would love to upgrade my DVD!
