Smiley I saw this movie this afternoon in theater. I liked very much the very good play of Asa BUTTERFIELD in part of Ender but also this one of Aramis KNIGHT and Suraj PARTHA in parts of Bean and Alaï. My movie rating is 8/10 !

Conor Carroll as Bernard

remarks

As already noted elsewhere, you really should read a book or two for the story.

A sex-change for Maj. Anderson: now Maj. Gwen Anderson

They tried to give Asa Butterfield an American accent.  It was good, but not perfect.  On the other hand, when I saw Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham, I thought to myself they should have got a real Maori; but as it turned out, his accent was completely convincing to me.

I have recently watched the DVD of this film and have to say it is not one of Asa Butterfield's better films. He appears on the screen with one expression most of the time and nearly all the actors, supposedly playing children, are too old for their parts (amply illustrated by 'hosenhaus's' pic of Conor Carroll who is an over-weight plain-Jane if ever there was one).
Unless you have read the Ender books, you wouldn't have a clue what was going on. The battle games are confusing enough in the books but there is no explanation offered as to the rules of play in the film.
'Ender's Game' is great on the special effects but the DVD is a disappointment in that the extras have no interview with Asa. Boo.

There are some movies out there that I can watch again and again without tiring of them, but this one isn't one of them. I enjoyed it the 1st time, and tried to watch a second and didn't get all the way through. as much as I love Asa, I have to agree this wasn't one of his better films! Sad
