The Diabolical (2015)
I was extremely impressed by Max Rose in this film. In fact, all the actors were top notch,
which is unusual for a low budget indie film and for a first-time director (Alistair Legrand). All
of the actors were truly into-their-characters: they were the characters. They were great!
The photography from veteran cinematographer John Frost was stunning. You can
see the beautiful 'characteristic flavor' of the Hawk C anamorphic lenses. Filmed with an
Arri Alexa camera which now surpasses the latitude and color space of tradition celluloid film.
Now to the story itself. I don't want to give any spoilers, so let me just say: I didn't
understand it. There was so much ambiguity and unanswered questions. I can't give any
more details or I'll spoil key points that make the film at least interesting to watch.
Killer sound track that really makes the mood. Kudos to Ian Hultquist and the sound department.
Definitely worth a look to see Max Rose.
