I haven't seen this yet, but sounds promising. IMDB indicates a laundry list of new boy actors appearing in it.

"The Alienist opens when a series of haunting, gruesome murders of boy prostitutes grips New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt (Geraghty) calls upon criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. They are joined by Sara Howard (Fanning), a headstrong secretary determined to become the city's first female police detective. Using the emerging disciplines of psychology and early forensic investigation techniques, this band of social outsiders set out to find and apprehend one of New York City's first serial killers.

PLEASE let us know if and when you hear more on this story! do you know if it'll be in English? or at least have Eng. Subs. with a 'Laundry list of boy actors, it's gonna be a good show, unless there is a lot of violence, especially if it's on the boys in the show, I can't take it.

I wonder the same thing.  I fear the boys are merely the murder victims.  Most critics I found seem negative about this.  It is based on a book by the same title, but even that I decided not to read since reviews of it complain how tedious it is to read.

And I'll probably not see the movie then, I don't like it when the Author makes the boys in the story, victims.

thanks for the info, hh!

I just went to IMDb to look at the profile for this movie, if it the kind of movie where they let you get to know the boy actor's Characters, then do what I consider a merciless killing of the boy's Character, then I have no interest in the movie. so I guess we'll see!
good thing it's broken up into episodes, that way I can watch a little at a time and decide if I like it or not.

It looks like Jackson Gann is in all of the episodes. Maybe worthy of an addition to the database?

Jackson was the number one name for baby boys in the US in 2017 (and every year since 2013).  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

There is a TNT app

At least in the US, you can stream episodes of current TNT shows (including "The Alienist").  Currently the first 5 episodes are available.

Two caps from episode 5.

Boys at a Catholic orphanage
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

This boy was almost a victim.  The bad guy bathes him, puts him in a nice frilly dress, puts some strange powder in his drink...
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
But they were interrupted.  As they take the boy away, he calls back, "Can I keep the dress?"

There is a woman (Dakota Fanning) among the stars of the show, she plays the secretary to Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt.  And she is involved in the investigation of the murders of the boy prostitutes.  She is curious: at one point she asks two scientists what a man can do with a boy for sexual purposes.  They respond in a graphic, but scientific, manner.

Art Burnett, actor from the UK

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

he plays Thomas, young son of Captain Connor, the shady cop

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

in Episode 8 (and some future episodes).

Since The Alienist is filmed in Hungary, they can hire actors from Europe quite easily.

Do you think the look of the series is convincing as 1890's USA?

Series added to database. The official poster was rather disgustingly garish, so I toned it down by making it sort of sepia-ish (which seemed appropriate for the late Victorian era), and combined it with the picture of Jackson Gann from this thread (see above). I think the resulting profile picture is much more aesthetic. Hope you like it. I've added profiles for a whole raft of the actors in the show - though I couldn't find a photo of Roland Miskey (born 2005 - he plays Ezra), so he doesn't yet get a profile page of his own. I don't understand the difference between a so-called "limited series" and a miniseries, so I've classified it as the latter.
