Cilliam is a lonely boy, living in a worn down house on the peaceful outskirts of a big city. One night, a threat arises and Cilliam seeks comfort in his mother - but is she there when he needs her?
‘Noumenon’ is a film about dreams. It deals with a child’s expectations as to what a mother should be.
Through surreal images and sound-scapes, the film slowly draws the audience into the curious, imaginative mind of a child lost in his dreams.

Julius Vestergaard as Cilliam

14min | Short, Drama | Denmark | Danish (English subtitles)

Thanks for this.

Since the title of the film is a technical philosophical term derived from Kant, constructing the Profile page for this movie gave me the opportunity to see if I could (under Notes) encapsulate the entire Kantian philosophy in just three sentences! I don't think I did too badly. I've been fascinated by philosophy ever since, as a 12 year old boy, curiosity led me to take a closer look at the 'Philosophy' shelves of my local public library. This eventually led, many years later, to my getting my PhD in Philosophy. Ah, but that was all so long ago...

Of course, the filmmaker is using the phrase 'noumenon' very loosely, as referring to something (in this case, the mother) that is an object of pure thought, rather than an object that is present to the senses. I suppose the filmmaker is suggesting that in some sense this doesn't make the mother any less 'real'. Or something like that.
