Passing Fancy (1933) ~ Tomio Aoki

A classic Japanese silent film from director Yasujiro Ozu, Passing Fancy is about the relationship between a poor Tokyo factory worker and his son as the father navigates an unrequited crush on a young homeless woman.

Tomio Aoki plays the boy, also named Tomio. He is credited as Tokkan Kozo ("dashing boy" in Japanese), which became his stage name after his 1929 debut in the Ozu film of the same name. The pair worked together on several prewar films.

Aoki had an interesting career and life story. A great obituary with lots of info can be found here:

Always good to hear of obscure boy actors. Thanks, 'nightwatcher'.
