The Last Czars

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

It seems to be some strange sort of combination of documentary and drama.

I guess the picture shows the son, Alexis.  The hemophiliac.  But IMDb does not list a credit for that part.

Netflix information: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
In the trailer there, the son looks one or two years old.

It relases on Netflix today, I have not seen it, so I do not know whether (or how much) we see the young prince.

A second season was just announced, maybe Alexis will be older then?

Here are some more pictures from the Netflix site...presumably showing Alexis.  The baby is in Episode 2, these are from Episodes 4 and 6.

Thanks for letting us know about this series!

The Tsarevich is Alexei, not Alexis. IMDb says this role is played by Oskar Mowdy.

Alexei was a true beauty!

Thanks. So it does. I believe that the IMDb entry for the series was updated sometime today, since when I checked earlier, that information was not available. Now if I could only find a decent picture of him. As for names, what really made me wince in agony was the point in the trailer when Grigori (stress on second syllable) is referred to as 'Gregory'. Oh dear!

There's a serviceable photo at this article

And the same site has this hilarious review...

Quote:
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. and the impression Netflix wants to leave you with is that of a historically accurate, well researched show. But if the very first thin it gives you is a photo that says “1905” – but shows the Red Square with Lenin’s Mausoleum (Lenin wouldn’t be dead for another 20 years!) – you can pretty much kiss historical accuracy goodbye. The footage was likely bought via Getty Images. Why bother, after all, when there are hundreds of stock pics lying around online!

Thanks for the link. Series and actor added to database.

The link below is to a page saying that there almost certainly won't be a season 2 - which isn't surprising given that the series has taken the story right up to the murder of the entire imperial family! Instead, the producer Nutopia has decided to make a series about babies, or something.

Country of birth: Lithuania

From a profile of his father...

Quote:
He is currently a teacher at Green School in the jungles of Bali, Indonesia where students learn, among other things, how to be environmentally conscious. It’s a career path dreamed up during time spent in his wife Simona’s home country of Lithuania, where he still owns a forest homestead and where his son, Oskar, was born.

Now this sounds like an interesting movie in the making!  Smiley

Looks like they picked some beautiful boy actors to play Alexei and the photo of the real Tsarevich shows he was no plain-jane either.
His father, the Tsar, was totally incompetent as a wartime leader and the family, as a whole, resided over a population in extreme poverty. However, there was no need to kill them all as the Bolsheviks did and when poor Alexei didn't die straightaway, a soldier put his gun to the boy's ear and fired.

Yeah they're both beautiful and also really nicely dressed. I just love boys in sailor suits and the uniform suits the other boy quite nicely, too.

@Cinefan That sounds horrible. Man, people were ruthless back in the day. I've read a bit about the French revolution and back then it apparently was nothing out of the ordinary to bring back a 6 year old Senegalese boy slave as a gift to Marie Antoinette. She freed and adopted him then and there but 6 years later, after her imprisonment, he apparently just starved in the streets, anyway.
