The NeverEnding Story

I just saw this movie for the first time in decades and cried all over again. It's such a classic, especially iconic for '80s kids. Both of the top boy actors in it, Noah Hathaway and Barret Oliver, turned in splendid performances. Noah went on to become a teen idol with his classic good looks.

I snagged a couple of screenshots and a publicity photo that I can't resist sharing:

"I just saw this movie for the first time in decades and cried all over again." I didn't think the movie was that bad!  Smiley Just kidding. Yes, a very pleasing 80s film.

I was upset mostly by again witnessing the horribly sad scene when Atreyu's horse dies. The way that both boys weep is so so moving. That scene freaked out millions of Gen Xers and others; social media is filled with comments about it. The death of Artax is among the most traumatic movie scenes ever for kids, right up there with the murder of Bambi's mother and the heartbreaking end of Old Yeller.  Cry

This is one of the classic boy actor films with two great leads in Noah and Barret. The story is wonderful and is complete with good acting from both boys. Special effects might look a bit dated now but it is still a great film to watch.

Thanks, Eric, for the clips.

My sentiments exactly on all points. Glad you enjoyed my post; thanks for the reply.

Noah was one of my first crushes, when I was younger I Remember always blushing look at those photos of him rocking those shorts and dreaming about marrying him like every other boy with crushes at the time, I still like him

Because of this thread, I wanted to watch this again.

I looked to see if it was on a streaming service I already pay for.
No such luck.
But there was one interesting thing that happened.  One site,
in addition to descriptions of movies, has the stars listed.
There was Barret Oliver.
Next was some balding middle-aged guy.  The caption said "Noah Hathaway".
(Looking closely I could see it was him.)
It seems Barret was in no films after 1989, so they used that old photo for him.

========

I got the blue-ray from my local library to watch.  The "re-mastered" version.
It looks great.  One of the extras talks about how they did it (starting with the original negatives, re-doing all the effects using modern techniques).
It also claims that, for the original American release of the movie, some scenes were deleted,
so it was more difficult to re-create those.
