Since Hosenhaus linked to this thread from the trivia one, I might as well post this here.
I saw the movie this weekend and I must say it is very good. Every kids movie should be more like this; there's a good mixture of serious issues and light humour, and the film manages to have some very good messages for kids without hammering them with heavy morals or sounding preachy. It's the kind of kids movie that parents will be able to get into and enjoy, because it doesn't assume that every kid who watches it is an idiot so it has to dumb everything down for them.
Although the girl is the star of the movie (and that's not such a bad thing, because she's a good actress and her character is interesting), Michael Angarano was obviously the main attraction for me. He's such a gifted and natural actor, and his performance in this film is really fun to watch.
I didn't think David Gallagher was particularly pleasing to the eye, nor is he brilliant as an actor. He does the job ok, but he has no chance in comparison to Michael Angarano. And yet the girl is in love with HIM, not Michael... go figure!
I'll admit I was a bit over-the-top in my recent "shameful confession" thread - obviously there was a time when DG was very cute. But after watching this movie, I have to say that, sadly, that time is over! But then again, since I was never a big fan of him, maybe that plays into it. Did hard fans will probably still enjoy seeing him in this movie.
Listen to the DVD commentary by the director and the screenwriter if you have the time. It's always fun to hear a director talk about how talented the kid actors he's worked with are. He also has a few funny annecdotes to tell. Plus, I didn't mind watching a movie a second time to hear the commentary.
So I'm quite pleased with Little Secrets and I recommend it to anyone here, especially if you like Michael Angarano.
Stay tuned for a large gallery of DVD caps from this film, coming soon. I'll post a note in the Updates forum when it's ready.
PS: Oh, and that line about doing it twice, I think it was about the drunk driving.
