I don't know if Anya's Bell (playing twice on Sunday) is any good, but I've wanted to check it out for years. It stars Mason Gamble, who was extremely cute at the time and, based on his performances in Rushmore and Arlington Road, very talented also.

It looks like he's no longer in the business, unfortunately. His official website biography doesn't report on any movie projects for the near future and his biography still says he's 14 years old. (He turned 18 yesterday... we just missed his birthday.)

Anya's Bell is a made-for-tv movie, so it probably won't be available on DVD. It's probably worth checking out if you have the channel on which it's playing.

There used to be some caps from the movie on Parvae Stellae's website, but he recently had to remove 44 actors from his site due to excessive bandwith and Mason Gamble was one of them.

So if anyone wants to do some captures of it for BoyActors, that would be great. Smiley

Meanwhile, here's a pic of Mason Gamble, from around the time of Anya's Bell.

Cam,

I've got a few on my list for this week that didn't appear on yours....

Monday 1-19-04

Kings Row (1942)
Small town scandals inspire an idealistic young man to take up psychiatry.

Douglas Croft (13) as Young Parris Mitchell
Scotty Beckett (13) as Young Drake McHugh
************************************
Tuesday 1-20-04

6:00am EST Turner Classic Movies
No Place To Go (1939) USA
Andrew Plummer is content living in an old soldiers home, but he agrees to move in with his son and his wife thinking that his son needs help with his business. Andrew later finds out that he's only in the way in his new surroundings. He finds solace when he befriends Tommy, a street kid who lives with a thieving uncle.

Sonny Bupp (11) as Tommy
Tommy Bupp (14) as Mack, Tommy's Assistant
**************************************
Thursday 1-22-04

1:45pm EST Turner Classic Movies
Joe Smith, American (1942) USA

Nazi spies in search of government secrets kidnap a munitions worker.

Darryl Hickman (11) as Johnny Smith
Robert Blake (9) as Young Johnny Smith
***********************************
Saturday 1-24-04

10:00pm EDT Turner Classic Movies

A highly recommended classic starring David Ladd (12) as Nello!!!!
***************************************************
Also, the David Copperfield being shown on TCM on 1-25 is this version
***********************************
As for Anya's Bell, I saw this on TV when it first aired and rated it 7/10 - not horrible by any means but it appears that I didn't see in it what others did. I have read many kind reviews of it since.

I believe you are correct joseph, it has never been released on video in any format.

Mason's sabbatical from acting could well have to do with the fact that he lives in suburban Chicago. It seems like the actors who don't actually move out to the coasts, are more likely to work infrequently. I hope he has used the "time off" to prepare himself for entry into a good college.

Thanks Zabladowski

With the exception of Dog of Flanders all of those are in my guide, which means I'm not doing as good of a job as I could.  For a while I was thinking that maybe we lived in the same viewing area.  But 10AM, TCM on the 24th is Day of the Outlaw in my area.

Thanks for the updates,
Cam

"Dog of Flanders" is on at 10 pm on the 24th, Cam.

If it truly is the David Ladd version that TCM is advertising, you won't want to miss this. I am suspicious only because the David Ladd film was made by 20th Century Fox and shouldn't be in the Turner library. They do however own the rights to the 1935 version starring Frankie Thomas which is not nearly as good.

I just checked my local listings here. It is indeed the one with David Ladd...This is what the info said.

"A Dog of Flanders
97 mins.

Charming version of Ouida's sentimental 1872 juvenile classic. Nello: David Ladd. Daas: Donald Crisp. Cogez: Max Croiset. Van Gelder: Theodore Bikel. Corrie: Monique Ahrens. Pedlar: John Soer. Filmed entirely in Belgium and Holland.

Cast: Theodore Bikel, David Ladd, Donald Crisp, Max Croiset

Category: Movie, Drama

Release Year: 1960"

Since I've only seen David in one other movie, I really don't want to miss this one. He impressed in Raymie and would love to see him in this. I'm watching for sure. Thanks Cam and Zabladowski for the lists and updates Smiley

Well now,

Maybe we'll have to get together for a coffee some Saturday morning.  It is indeed in my listing for 10PM.

According to my notes I own this on VHS although I don't think I've seen it yet.  I seem to aquire movies faster than I can watch them.  I guess they'll keep me happy in my dotage.

Will, where did you ever find a copy of Raymie to watch? I've never seen it listed on TV and to my knowledge it has never been released on video.
I am trying to see all of David's juvenile performances and that is one of the two I have yet to find.

Zabladowski,

Actually, it's not a VHS copy, it's a Windows Media file that Barth over at Barthsburgey.com put together and had for everyone to download for a while. I asked where he got it from and he said he has a 16mm, I think that's what he said, of it and transfered it to a VHS tape. He offered to send me a copy if i would pay for the blank tape and the shipping. But I passed. Then a few weeks later, he put it on his site in three parts. all of which are close to 100 megs in size.

I would be more than happy to put them on my site and let people download them if they wanted. As this has never been released on video, I don't think it falls under the Copyright laws. that's how I justified downloading it any way. Let me know if you would like this. I'll upload the clips one at a time...

Have a great day!

That would be awesome. :jump:

If you do make it available some day, PLEASE post something to let me know. I would be most appreciative and I bet David has a few other fans who might like to see this film as well.
