From director Michael MacGowan comes Saint Ralph, the unlikely story of Ralph Walker, a ninth grader whose mother is ill. Hoping to create a miracle that will restore her health he decides to run and win theBostonmarathon. Set in 1954, this wonderfully nostalgic film is sure to charm audiences. Adam Butcher is the lead, surrounded by major talents such as Gordon Pinsent, Jennifer Tilly, and Campbell Scott.

I read about this film debuting at the Toronto Film festival a few weeks ago. It doesn't look like its coming to theatres in Canada until next Spring!

Another 'abuse' movie   Grin

From Yahoo:

Set in Hamilton in 1954, the story of Ralph Walker, a 14-year-old who outran everyone's expectations in his bold quest to win the Boston Marathon. His seriously ill mother knows he is waiting to explode into greatness, except that he has no idea where that greatness will manifest itself. But when an unfortunate incident of self-abuse in the community pool inadvertently sets him on this road when, as penance, Ralph is conscripted to the cross-country team. Desperate to believe a miracle will bring his mother out of a coma, Ralph becomes a convert to the church of running, and determines to win the Boston Marathon.
