Best Foreign Language Oscar

The list of the 49 competitors for the best foreign language Oscar has been released.  Smiley

For those of you who don't know how the process works for this award, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invites countries to submit a film for consideration. It is then up to each individual country to select which film, if any, gets to represent them in the competition. These nominees are then winnowed down to the five finalists by the Academy.

At this point in the competition, I believe there are 18 films which feature boy actors in the lead or in moderate supporting roles which are in contention for the prize. These films already have profiles in our database.

I will try to create profiles on the rest, if the boy content warrants a profile and I can gather the necessary info.

Canada - Far Side of the Moon
Ecuador - Chronicles
Egypt - I Love Cinema
Estonia - Revolution of Pigs
India - Shwaas
Mexico - Innocent Voices
Norway - Hawaii, Oslo
Philippines - The Crying Ladies

Great!  You know, the Academy could sure save a lot of trouble if they'd just check with you, Joseph, Socksoles and whoever else I forgot to mention. 8)

Even though Les Choristes is our only horse left in this race, I haven't given up trying to find information on the other films.

Today I found a nice still from Hawaii, Oslo

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

That's Ferdinand Falsen Hiis (Scars) and Benjamin Lønne Røsler (Junior Olsen Gang)

The trailer reminded me of Magnolia....

By the way, Turtles Can Fly is playing here in Montreal later this month, so I'm assuming that means it's getting a North American theatrical release. Worth checking out, although I was in the minority on this one and didn't agree with the very high praise it's been receiving. (I saw it at a film festival in October.)
