L.O.T.F like documentary

There was a show or rather documentary that played a few times on the sundance channel. Of course I can't remember the name:P. Anyhoo, The documentary was an experiment where they stuck 12 pre-teen boys in a house, to live unsupervised for a week. All the boys were recruited from different parts of the uk...meaning they were all strangers to one another. They were given basic instruction on how to cook, what cook...etc (survival tools)

It was really interesting to watch and predict which boys would be the leaders. I was kinda shocked at fast fast chaos took over as well. It made me realize that if my mom and dad didn't make clean up my room when I was younger, I never would have clean it...EVER! lol The documentary was very "Lord of the Flies" like, and infact proved the movies accuracy in depicting human nature and social roles and rules.

Anyone else see this documentary?

One guy local to the house where it was done reported that it was rigged.  The producers did things to encourage chaos, which would not have happened on its own.

Yes I've seen it, it was called Boys Alone. I saw it on the US cable channel Trio last year.
A lot of people gave it rave reviews, I just thought it was ok.

Yes I have seen this.

and that house after a week was totalled.

and yes I think it was rigged, as a lot of the things they left in the house (ie paint and fun stuff) they would not have ever had access to before unless it was supervised.

also it did so some compasion that some of the boys had for each other.

In tv show was it ok for boys to play outside?  I dont like to be in house for whole week if cant go outside.  Post I read make me think of usa tv show in summer name Big Brother but dont got kids.

In Big Brother it got camera every place and in bedroom and bathroom too.

If cant go outside it not be no fun.  Do boys get pay money or got prize in show for be on tv show whole week?  I wonder if use actors or regular boys

There were cameras all over this house too, apart from in the bathroom, and they had a big garden in which they could play, and 3 of the boys I think ended up camping out in a tent on a few nights Smiley

They actually had a camera crew following them around, rather than static cameras positioned around the house. While the camera crew generally left the boys to their own devices, they were there to ensure no-one got injured - and they did intervine to protect a hedgehog...

If camera crew in house then boys arent by themself without no adults.  TV show dont make no sense to me if it got camera crew to save hedgehog and stop other things boys do. It is same as have parents only somebody else parent.

Im glad hedgehog didnt get hurt . I wonder if taste like regular hog then boys do good to hunt own food.

True, but they were "unsupervised" - but there are limits as to how far they can be allowed to go for a TV show. If it had really descended into LOTF and someone's life was in danger, then the people involved with the show would have had to intervene. I believe they only got involved with the hedgehog, as had they gone any further they would have caused the hedgehog "distress" (I'm not sure if hedgehog's are protected species in this country).

But they were, in general, allowed to do as they pleased, as if they were without adults.

I guess it's a situation where you cannot observe it without affecting the experiment by the presence neccesary to observe it Smiley

Shows like this are fun to watch but they prove absolutely nothing.  The boys would have played up for the cameras and would have been encouraged to trash the house.

They made a followup program which featured girls.

They may be endangered, but I'm not sure they're on any of the Protected Species lists - we certainly don't do surveys for them as part of the work we do, unlike badgers and bats.
