it was on tv news last night - nothing yet at google news so this is sort-of exlusive to boyactors!

daniel barber has been chosen to play tiny tim!

details of competition he won.

The search for Tiny Tim

We are auditioning for a boy to play Tiny Tim in Scrooge, The Musical. He will join one of three children’s teams and will have the chance to perform with the company at the London Palladium
this Christmas.

This heart-warming family story stars musical legend Tommy Steele and is based on Charles
Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and features stunning sets and costumes, illusions by magician Paul
Kieve (acclaimed for the magic effects in the Harry Potter flms) and a fantastic musical score.

To audition, simply filll out the entry form returning it with an S.A.E and recent photo and let us know why you might be the perfect Tiny Tim! If successful you will be invited to audition in front of the producers of the show.

An almost exclusive deserves an almost Pulitzer  Grin

The next assignment is for someone to get a photo.

Does anyone know what author has had the greatest number of of movies, or stage performances of his/her work?

I'm thinking Dickens.

I love A Christmas Carol. Especially Tiny Tim. I watch it every December, even though I am Jewish. Tongue

On reflection, I decided Agatha Christie just might have Dickens beat.

An amazing feat, considering that IMDB wasn't quite on the drawing board in SHakespeare's time of life in the 1600's.  Wink

there's yet another dickens adaptation about to start on the bbc.

i don't know that i'll watch it.

i'm all bleaked out - with a lifetime of bleak house broadcasts behind me.

the best IMHO was a bbc radio serialisation in the 1970s/1980s.

can't remember the exact date.

NOT the 1999 radio remake which was inferior (again IMHO!)

i tried to google it but gave up without success.

there's a photo of daniel barber preparing to make his professional debut on the front page of `the stage` newspaper - october 20.

but i can't find it online!

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

it accompanies an article about the postcode lottery : local authorities being obstructive in regard to the employment of children in showbiz.

that article ["child performer `postcode lottery` faces overhaul` by alistair smith ]doesn't seem to be online either : here's an earlier, shorter, article dealing with the topic.

Great Expectations

WITH Dickens splashed across our TV screens thanks to Andrew Davies's adaptation of Bleak House, the quintessential 19th-century English author is all the rage again as perfect Sunday night viewing. The TV schedules bode well for Perth Theatre's long-awaited relaunch within the auspices of its new multi-million-pound theatre and concert hall.

Perth gets its first home-produced production this season in Great Expectations. Adapted by Scottish playwright John Clifford it serves as a taster of what is to come under the new management team of creative director Graham McLaren from Theatre Babel and Ian Grieve. Their remit is to launch Perth Theatre as a formidable force in the theatrical touring and co-production market in central Scotland and Dickens is the playwright charged to rally the public.

Dickens' masterpiece of life, relationships and tortured romance is refracted through a beautifully crafted tale of childhood cruelty and innocence, and McLaren and Grieve's joint aspiration is nothing short of ambitious.

It is a classic rags-to-riches tale focusing on the young Pip whose moral progress is shaped by his encounter with the eerie Magwitch, his relationship with the mysterious Miss Haversham and her vengeful protégé Estella. Childhood abuse is gradually replaced by a chance to escape the hard life and pursue the life of a real gentleman.

With actors of the calibre of Jimmy Chisholm and Tom McGovern making an appearance, and word that McLaren's version is one in which the burlesque and the grotesque make merry alongside the playful and physical, Perth Theatre's home-grown productions will hopefully revitalise the area's cultural life.

Perth Theatre, Perth (0845 612 6319), Friday until November 26, 7.45pm
