pelle the conqueror

I recently watched "pelle the conqueror", and I enjoyed it. one thing I liked about it, (and every other movie that has this theme) is the part in the barn in the beginning when they moon the kid and your heart just goes out to him.

and then lator when the bad guy gets hooted at, you see how the kid feels some revenge, and you get this really good feeling. it's emotional, and I like that.

(plus, thru out the film you get to see the actor in all his glory.
I find that if there is a nice young man in a pretty descent length film and he never has his shirt off during the film, I don't feel like I really got to know him)

Which other films have the themes montioned?

I don't comprehend how a topless or even fully naked image of any leading male character could help you to "fully know" him.

Gee, some statements made in this forum are plainly odd.

You must remember that English is not the native language of all posters here Andreas, so some of the writings can seem strange in translation, but I agree with you.

Kwack would you like to explain to us how you get to know characters that remove at least some of their clothing better than those who don't?  Roll Eyes

I own copies of both "Pelle The Conqueror" and "Pelle der Eroberer" which are basically different versions of the same story. Oddly, it seems that they were shot only a few years apart... one I believe is Swedish and the other German. I liked both versions of the story although the production quality of the Swedish one was a bit greater.

As to the exposure/"got to know him" comment made in the first post of this thread all I can say is that (regardless of the age, sex, ethnicity, etc. of a character) perhaps one gets a greater sense of intimacy with a character when that character is seen in some state of undress. So, I'm not sure if I see anything terribly odd about that statement except that maybe it could have been expressed with somewhat different wording.

Which is precisely why I'm asking kwack to explain himself further.  Wink

While I would agree that in some situations seeing a character physically bare might increase the viewer's empathy/connection to him/her, I feel that this same sort of vulnerability can be expressed in emotional ways as well, so I don't believe that undress is the only way to engender "intimacy," just one of many tools that could be used.

I also don't feel that use of this tool guarantees that feeling of closeness either; I don't feel any more intimate with Warren Schmidt (Jack Nicholson) having seen his bare rear end in About SchmidtGrin

Where to begin? Grin I think she is one fine actress but I'm content to see here clothed.

Badger, I am trying to block that image of Kathy Bates out of my mind......FOREVER  Grin

Andreas,

Please do see About Schmidt; although not a great boy movie, it is a great movie. It made my list of 2003 favorites.
