What is the deal with him being on a list of top boy actors

He wasn't.  It's not a list of "boy actors".  It's a list of "media boys" ...

Well if you look at the list of eligible names Justin Bieber is at least genuinely popular so it's not a surprise that he appears in the top 10. Remember that the poll is actually called ALT.FAN.TEEN.IDOLS (please excuse the caps, I'm not trying to be rude), which is a usenet group and the poll is not conducted by the BoyActors site. What I find bewildering is why they don't try to improve the polling methods to get a greater level of participation. Many of the usenet junkies are still yet to acknowledge that anything outside of usenet has much validity.

At least this year's list is believable   Smiley

Oh. Okay. Now it makes even less sense to me. Actually, almost bordering on retarded. Who dreamed this scheme up. That's like combining the Oscars and the Grammy's. Remember the old saying "Comparing Apples To Oranges." That is essentially what this is. No wonder I have never either understood the results of their polls nor ever agreed with them.

Like I said before as cute as I find Justin B. once he hits puberty and he boyish good looks turn to manly good looks and his voice drops a few octives he will be soon forgotten. I don't find him that talented at all and why they invited him to the remake of "We Are The World" with so many really talented singers I just don't understand. I mean I understand the commercial aspect but come on. So out of place and league. What were they thinking. Sorry, I don't have anything against him its just that I don't see him as anything more than just another pretty face.

I think it's 'cause it was really conceived as a "cutest boy in the media" kinda poll. Talent doesn't really come into it, and that's why you can compare actors and singers.

I'm not saying that everybody is voting only on the basis of looks. But that's obviously a big part of it. Otherwise, as Phenom says, it doesn't make sense to compare actors and singers.

Yeah, okay. I can see it in that light. So, who are the powers that be that might be able to change that or create another poll in which we can vote on boy actors and/or singers and vote based on things like talent, looks, personality, ect. Is that even a possibility or would anyone even be interested in such a thing.

Hey josephk, how bout them Canadians. Finally got Olympic Gold on their own home turf. What is it up to now 2 or 3 Golds and some other types of metal. Australia just won Gold in the Women's Half-Pipe in Snowboarding. Another one of my favorite countries to winning Olympic Gold. Strange at it may seem if America doesn't win Gold in my favorite events then I wanted it to be Canada or Australia. And I've been getting my wish.  Smiley

I've watched quite a few of the events live (5 channels to choose from) and particularly enjoyed the Skiing and Snowboarding events so far.

I was keen to see how well 15 year old Australian Scott James performed in his Snowboarding events but he fractured a wrist which I would assume hindered his chances somewhat...

Olympics, huh? Never heard of 'em.  Wink

No, but seriously. It's not the first time we have Olympics in Canada. The Summer Olympics were in Montreal in 1976. It was a financial disaster that put the city in debt for 30 years. We still have (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) to remind us of it.

I wonder if Vancouver will fare better, financially. I have to confess I haven't really been following the sports.

Wow. What an expensive and ill designed piece of crap. I realize that it's difficult to stop progress but I really hate to see such an old and historic city like Montreal with its old French architecture ruined by the encroaching modern world.

Well, they have been saying that Canada has never won Gold in any of the Olympics hosted by Canada on its home turf so far. But they have several Golds now.  Smiley

Who actually runs or hosts the poll. How can we have the poll changed or at least add seperate catagories for Boy Actors or Singers where we are actually voting on talent and not just looks. Is this a possibility or not.

I'm not sure I agree that you can't equate and compare talent in one area (acting) to talent in another (singing). Whether Justin Bieber is talented at all is another issue...

I can't speak for the original poll when it was started by Lonomyth, but the current poll is supposed to be more focused on talent than looks (the rules do state this), however we can't force the voters to do that (and I'm sure they would defend their choices as being talented rather than just good looking).

As for splitting the poll up, there have been suggestions in the past, whether it's having an Oscars-style set of categories, a separate poll for non-English speaking performers, or in your case a separate poll for musicians, given the decreasing number of voters (although it does appear to have plateaued for the last few years), I'm not sure that fracturing those votes further helps the results and is more likely to lead to a small number of voters having a greater influence.

The poll has often had singers in the top 10 over the years (some more talented than others, in my opinion). There's also the issue of what you do about performers who both act and sing...

Easy. They'd be eligible in both polls. If it's really based on talent, then they'll have a chance to win in both categories based on their talent as a singer and as an actor. If they're a good singer but not a very good actor (or vice versa), then they would probably win one category and not in the other. Why would this be an issue?

Although I do agree that this splitting the poll into different categories might not be all worth it if there aren't that many voters. I mean, that's the obvious limitation of a poll like this - there's a very limited number of voters.

Ultimately, I'd say the poll is just for fun and not to be taken too seriously, so it doesn't really matter either way.

This parody video illustrates that in a very humorous way.

Personally, I think Justin has a good voice but all he is doing is mimicking the way popular black singers sing. It's all style and no substance. There's nothing original about him.
