Of course, almost all movies & TV series in other languages I can't see until a few years later, so if you want the 2012 list now, they are ruled out...

I agree Cinefan. It's very hard to get a well formed opinion on the year in film straight away because there's not enough time or availability to see all the films a person would like to in a given year.
I also saw Michael in a cinema in 2012 so for me it was a 2012 release, maybe not though for someone in Germany.

The best performances I saw in a first run environment in 2012 were supporting roles.

My winner for dramatic supporting actor
is Émilien Néron as Simon in Monsieur Lazhar.
Judging from the database ratings, most of you
have yet to see this film or Emilien's performance,
both are highly recommended.

My favorite supporting performance in a comedy, was  Marcos Ruíz as Dani in the Spanish film Primos.
While not a "boy film," I thoroughly enjoyed both the film and Marcos' contribution to it.

My favorite leading role in a drama was Iker Fernández in El chico que miente from Venezuela.
Hopefully some day this film will get a video release so more people can enjoy it.

My favorite leading performance in a comedy was Alexey Mi'nko in the almost unknown Ukranian film Rock n' Ball.
The film itself is fairly formulaic, but Alexey was a real charmer. Pictures of this film were hard to find, but here's a shot of Alexey.

WOW! What a CUTIE!!

Sort of. I rated things that I saw in a "first run" environment (cinema screenings, film festivals etc) in 2012. If I could include those things I saw for the first time in 2012, I would have considered Robbie Kay in Ways to Live Forever,  Sturla Sighvatsson or Sigfús Sturluson from Benjamin Dufa or even Anthony Wager from Great Expectations.

P.S. Captain Abu Raed is an excellent film, but I saw it in May 2010.

Went to see this today. WOW what an astonishing performance by Tom. in fact all the young actors in this film deserve great praise.
