A ghost story?  Or a love story with ghosts (lots of ghosts)?

The framework is "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James (which has already been done many times for movies or TV).  But with lots added on.  In one of the extras on the DVD, Mike Flanagan talks about how the series cama about.  It was a sort of "second season" to follow "The Haunting of Hill House".  They had these ideas about ghosts and memory.  Then they looked around for a classic ghost story to serve as the vehicle.

Flora (Miles' sister) has much more acting to do than Miles.  But we do see one episode with Miles in his boarding school.
